On November 18, 1940, twenty local Montanans gathered to hold the first meeting of what was then called Great Falls Cooperators Credit Union. Their goal was to provide low-interest loans and a favorable rate of return for each other. They decided that borrowers were required to deposit savings while repaying their loans. While today’s Montana Credit Union looks vastly different 85 years later, our principles remain the same: provide low-interest loans, a favorable rate of return for members, and encourage deposits and savings while repaying loans. Those initial 20 members set the stage for a local powerhouse cooperative, now serving over 25,000 members across the great state of Montana.
You are part of this great story and our current success! As we celebrate 85 years as a financial cooperative, we take pride in the work we do to encourage, guide, and celebrate our members on a daily basis. And while our Guiding Values are somewhat “new” to us, when we look at them from the perspective of 85 years of serving members, they fit right in with our history and progress.
